The Heavenly Jerusalem
For many of us, the book of Ezekiel appears long and complex. Nevertheless, it is where we find prophecy concerning the New Jerusalem, that is Yhvh Shamma, God is there—similar to the Hebrew Yerushalayim. “And the name of the city from that time on will be: The Lord is there.”
Truly, this is a magnificent place with healing waters flowing from the throne of God. God is there. A city where the tree of life continually yields crops of fruit, fruit every month, for healing and restoration. God is there. There will be no night, for the light of God, which precedes and outlasts the sun will radiate and illuminate the city. God is there, and we behold Him, for the dwelling of God is now with men.
The people of the New Covenant have already arrived to that position. Through the resurrection and exaltation of Y’shua, the focus of salvation has shifted from the earthly to the heavenly realm. That is, we are now seated in the heavenly places with Christ Jesus. Spiritually, we are with Him. We live out our existence here on this earth with a heavenly perspective.
If only the people of the earthly Israel, God’s people, could comprehend, that their hope lies not in Jerusalem, but in Jesus the Christ. He fulfills all that Jerusalem dimly foreshadowed in regard to the presence of God with his people. All that Jerusalem had promised can now be transferred to the heavenly Jerusalem that the Messiah has opened up. This is a new and far-reaching point of view. May the Lord open the hearts of His people, as we pray for the shalom of Jerusalem.
The glory of heaven will be the ultimate fulfillment of all of God’s promises. A great culmination: Yhvh Shamma.
