Chanukah 2017

Fountain of Blessings pronounces the Lord’s favor and protection upon you as we approach this spectacular season of lights. {December 12 – 20, 2017}

Jesus is the light of the world.

It is at this time that we recall a great victory, more than 2100 years ago, led by the Maccabees. They were a militarily weak but spiritually strong people, who overcame powerful forces of a ruthless enemy that had swarmed the Holy Land and threatened to engulf the land and its people in darkness.

This miraculous victory has been celebrated annually ever since during the eight days of Chanukah. Lighting the menorah is a symbol and message of the triumph of freedom over oppression, spirit over matter, and light over darkness.

During these perilous times, this message is even more reassuring. The darkness that is plaguing our society can only be expelled by such illumination. Every human soul begins the life journey in darkness. In Yeshua we may become light, and begin to walk as children of light.

Enlightenment thus begins with Jesus the Messiah, and increases and intensifies as we grow and develop in faith, even as the Chanukah lights are kindled in growing numbers from day to day.

Yet, this light is not only for our benefit. The nature of light is that when it is kindled, it benefits all who are nearby. Even so, as the Chanukah lights expressly illumine our homes, they allude to our duty to promote the force of light to all who still walk in darkness.

This season, let us pray that the salvation of Yeshua, exemplified in the lighting of the menorrha, will bring increasing enlightenment to each of us personally, and also to our society at large, and around the world.

Amen
